Welcome to the Drug Free Alton Coalition

The Drug Free Alton Coalition (DFA) is focused on preventing youth from using alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. We know from surveys that MOST Alton area youth choose to NOT use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. However, we also know that:

• 20% of our 8th grade students report drinking alcohol in the past month
• 37% of our 10th grade students report drinking alcohol in the past month
• 13% of our 8th grade students report smoking marijuana in the past month
• 29% of our 10th grade students report smoking marijuana in the past month

That means approximately 2 out of every 5 teens are drinking alcohol on a regular basis and 1 out of every 3 teens smokes marijuana on a regular basis!
